Proposed Legislation in Wisconsin

State Senators Fred Risser, Bob Jauch and Tim Carpenter have introduced 2007 Senate Bill 151, modeled after Oregon's Death with Dignity Act. The bill is cosponsored by State Representatives Frank Boyle, Terese Berceau and Mark Pocan, and has been sent to the Senate Committee on Public Health, Senior Issues, Long Term Care and Privacy.

A legislative hearing was held on Senate Bill 151 on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 in the State Capitol, the first time in approximately ten years that the bill has been given a hearing.

The members of the Senate Committee on Public Health, Senior Issues, Long Term Care and Privacy are: Tim Carpenter (D), Chair; Spencer Coggs (D); Pat Kreitlow (D); Dale Schultz (R); and Bob Cowles (R). They can be contacted by letters addressed to them at: State Capitol, P.O. Box 7882, Madison, WI 53707-7882. If you support the passage of a Death with Dignity Law in Wisconsin, please contact these legislators to urge them to move this bill forward.
